Key Visa Categories for 2026
1. Specified Skilled Worker (SSW i & ii)
This is a game-changer for skilled individuals in 16 specific industries (including Nursing Care, Agriculture, Construction, and Food Service).
SSW (i): A 5-year stay for workers with basic Japanese and industry skills.
SSW (ii): For those with higher specialization—this allows for indefinite renewals and the right to bring your family to Japan.
Language Requirement: Typically requires JLPT N4 or the JFT-Basic test.
2. Engineer / Specialist in Humanities / International Services
The most common route for white-collar professionals.
Target Roles: IT Engineers, Graphic Designers, Interpreters, and Marketing Specialists.
Eligibility: Requires a University Degree or 10 years of relevant experience, plus a job offer from a Japanese company.
3. Highly Skilled Professional (HSP) – The "Fast Track"
For top-tier talent scoring 70+ points on Japan’s merit-based system.
The Benefit: Grants a 5-year visa automatically and offers the fastest path to Permanent Residency in Japan (as little as 1 to 3 years).
2026 Update: Stricter scrutiny on tax and pension history, but prioritized processing (often within 10 days).
4. J-Find Visa (Future Creation Individual)
A special visa for graduates from the world’s top 100 universities.
Purpose: Allows you to stay in Japan for up to 2 years specifically to look for a job or start a business.
